Moving the Superintendent Registrar's Office

Closed 31 Jul 2019

Opened 8 Jul 2019

Overview

East Sussex Registration is entering into a period of public consultation until 11:59pm on 31 July 2019, on its proposal to relocate the Superintendent Registrar’s Office and the Notice of Marriage display from its current location at Hastings Town Hall, Queens Road, Hastings, TN34 1QR to Crowborough Register Office, Hookstead, Goldsmith's Avenue, Crowborough, TN6 1RH with effect from 1 November 2019.

Legislation requires East Sussex County Council to provide a statutory ‘Superintendent Registrar’s Office’ and a display of all notices of marriage and civil partnership which have been attested over the last 28 days. At present these functions are provided at Hastings Town Hall.

This proposal would see these functions relocated to Crowborough Register Office, which is the base office of the current Superintendent Registrar. This will also increase availability of birth and death registration appointments in Hastings.

Why your views matter

This proposal would mean that couples will be able to marry in a £46 statutory ceremony within the Superintendent Registrar’s Office at Crowborough Register Office from 1 November 2019, and this provision would no longer be available at Hastings Register Office from the same date.  This would also mean that the display of notices attested in the last 28 days would be displayed at Crowborough Register Office, and would no longer be on display at Hastings Register Office from 1 November.

There are no further changes to this proposal. All existing statutory ceremony bookings would be honoured as booked. All birth, death and notice of marriage appointments will continue at Hastings Register Office and will be unaffected by this proposal. All three of the existing ceremony rooms we currently offer at Hastings Town Hall (The Council Chamber, Mayor's Parlour and Rossetti Room) will also remain available for weddings and civil partnerships in the same way as they have done before.
