Thank You for Your Feedback – Funding Newsletter Survey 2025

Between 7 July and 4 August 2025, we received 108 responses to our survey. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone’s time and feedback. 

Funding News subscribers gave their views about the Newsletter’s usefulness, content, layout and frequency of publication. People also shared their views about the Newsletter’s impact on getting funding, and if there were any other improvements they would like.

What people told us

Overall feedback was positive, with respondents saying they find the newsletter’s content useful and easy to navigate. Most respondents are happy with the monthly frequency.

  • 78% find the newsletter useful
  • 87% like the layout / find it easy to navigate
  • 88% are happy with the monthly frequency

Impact of the newsletter

  • 43.5% of respondents applied for funding they found out about in the newsletter
  • 14.8% successfully secured funding, with awards ranging from £1,000 to £200,000
  • The newsletter helps with deadline updates, priority changes, and discovering new funders.
  • The main challenges faced were high competition and funding criteria mismatches

What respondents told us they want to see more of

  • Data and insight to support bids (58%)
  • Resources to help with bid writing (53%)
  • Advice on applying for grants (47%)

Who responded

Most respondents (over 40%) were from registered charities or Charitable Incorporated Organisations, followed by community groups (10%), Community Interest Companies (7.4%), Parish/Town, District/Borough Councils (7.4%). 21% of respondents who categorised themselves as ‘other’ were made up of individuals, self-help groups, church, university, businesses and councils. 

The areas respondents worked most in were health and wellbeing (49%), Children & Young People (35%), Older People (35%), and Environment & Community Spaces (15% each). 30% of respondents chose Other to describe diverse areas of work.  Areas under this category notably related to housing and homelessness.

The locations where respondents’ organisations were based were fairly even across East Sussex, with slightly more located in Lewes, Rother, and Hastings (over 26%), followed by Eastbourne and Wealden (23% and 19% respectively).  Some respondents indicated their organisation covers multiple geographical areas.

The locations where respondents’ group or organisation actually deliver their services in were Rother (41%), Hastings (36%) and Lewes (34%), followed by Wealden and Eastbourne (31%) respectively.

Overview

East Sussex County Council’s Funding News aims to help East Sussex groups to stay informed about funding opportunities.

It’s important that people reading our newsletter benefit from the information and stories we share. We want to hear what readers think of the newsletter, and how beneficial they find its contents. 

This short survey will help us understand:

  • If the content of the newsletter is useful
  • If the newsletter helped groups and organisations apply for funding and if they're successful in getting it
  • What content readers would like to see more or less of
  • How readers feel about the layout of the newsletter

We will use this feedback to make improvements to our newsletter.
