Application form for the Adult Social Care Citizens Panel

Closed 24 Jun 2022

Overview

Make a difference to social care services that support thousands of people

Could you play a part in shaping the future of adult social care in East Sussex? We are looking for up to 50 people with recent lived experience of being supported by the Council, or caring for someone who does, to join our new Adult Social Care (ASC) Citizens Panel.

Why are we setting up the ASC Citizens Panel?

We are in the early stages of developing new ambitious plans for adults who need care and support in the county. Care and support for adults includes support and services like assessments, telecare, equipment, home care, direct payments, adaptations, extra care housing, supported living, and care homes. Given that we spent over £300 million in 2021/22 on supporting people, you can imagine how important this work will be.

What will the membership of the ASC Citizens Panel be?

The membership of the panel will be broadly representative of our clients and the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act, such as age, race, religion, and sexual orientation. The panel will play a key role over the next 18 months in setting our priorities for the coming years.

Why should I get involved?

It’s a great time to get involved, not least as social care reform features high on the government’s agenda: the Build Back Better plan for health and social care; People at the Heart of Care, the adult social care reform white paper, and the white paper on integrating health and social care, Joining up Care for People, Places and Populations

By giving your voice and experience to the panel you’ll be making a difference to services used by thousands of people every year. So, if you’re passionate about making services the best they can be, we want to hear from you!

How would I be supported as an ASC Citizens Panel member?

The Citizens Panel will be managed through our existing People Bank of volunteers. This means there will be lots of support on offer, including a named contact, training and expenses and reward payments, so please don’t worry if you don’t have experience of taking part in something similar before. We are always keen to bring in new voices and for this project it is important that we bring together a diverse group of people so that everyone’s needs are considered when setting our priorities.
