Statutory Proposal to close Holy Cross Church of England Primary School

On 14 November 2023 the Lead Member for Education and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs and Disability considered a report in relation to the proposed closure of Holy Cross Church of England Primary School.

After giving due consideration to the facts presented, the Lead Member took the difficult decision that the school should close at the end of the current academic term.  This means that the school will officially close on 31 December 2023.  The minutes of the Lead Member meeting and reasons for the decision can be viewed under the link  below.

Notice is hereby given in accordance with section 15 of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 (as amended by the Education Act 2011) and the School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) Regulations 2013 that East Sussex County Council, County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes BN7 1UE, intends to discontinue the following voluntary aided school with effect from 31 December 2023.

Holy Cross Church of England Primary School, Belmont Road, Uckfield TN22 1BP

All children attending Holy Cross Church of England Primary School at the time the decision is effective, would be offered places at alternative schools in the area.  At the start of the 2023/24 academic year, the school had 13 children on roll.

Free transport would be provided for eligible pupils provided they meet the criteria. The criteria can be found on the East Sussex County Council website at: https://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/educationandlearning/schools/transport/

East Sussex County Council is publishing the proposal.  The Council will implement the proposal.  The proposal is not related to any other school organisation proposal which has been or is about to be published.

Explanatory Notes

East Sussex County Council will determine the statutory notice within two months of the end of the representation period.  If the Council fails to determine the notice within this time, it will pass all relevant material to the Schools Adjudicator who will determine the notice.
