Broomhill Car Park - proposed introduction of parking charges

Overview

We are seeking your views about a proposal to introduce parking charges at Broomhill Sands Car Park, Lydd Road, Rye, TN31 7SB.  Broomhill Sands Car Park is owned and managed by East Sussex County Council (ESCC) and there are currently no parking charges in place.

Income generated by the proposed parking charges would provide budget for the ongoing maintenance and management of the car park, for which there is currently no dedicated funding. 

Any surplus income would be used to support management of the nearby County Council-owned Camber Sands Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The consultation period runs from 9th to 30th January 2026.  After the closing date we will review and consider all responses.

Why your views matter

At this stage, we are seeking your views.  In particular we would like to know:

  • Whether you do or don’t support the proposals and your reasons.
  • Your thoughts on the proposed charges.
  • Any other comments you may have.

Your feedback at this informal stage will help us decide if changes should be made before any formal proposals are advertised.  If alternatives are suggested, these may be included in the final proposals.

The proposed parking charges for Broomhill Sands Car Park, between 8am to 6pm are as follows:

Parking for blue badge holders, cycles and motorcycles would remain free.

Payment for parking would be available using a mobile phone app or card via a parking machine on site.
