Over 2,600 residents and organisations completed a survey about their views on suggested changes to buses. 13 people responded via this online survey.

Also over 200 people wrote to the council or emailed their views, and 13 petitions were handed in. We received feedback from members of the public, MPs, councillors from district, borough, town and parish councils, businesses and community organisations during the consultation period. This feedback, together with other information including the Equality Impact Assessment, will be taken into account.

On 16 December the Council’s Cabinet will consider recommendations for the reformulated supported bus network. The cabinet papers will be available here from 9 December.

Overview

The County Council want to change some bus services because it doesn’t have as much money as it used to.

Most bus services in East Sussex are run by bus companies without money from East Sussex County Council (about 80%).

East Sussex County Council pay bus companies to provide the other 20%. This is called the supported bus network. There is now less money available to spend on these supported bus services.

Why your views matter

We have looked at who needs to use bus services and when they need to use them.

• children need buses to get to school or college
• people need buses to travel to work
• people need buses to get to services like doctors, supermarkets and banks at least twice a week

We think people can still do these things even if some buses make less journeys each day or week.

This is a list of all the bus services that we would like to change. If a bus number is not on the list, no changes are planned for that service.

We are also thinking about charging 30% more for each bus journey.
e.g. a child bus fare that is now £1.00 will cost about £1.30.

We want to hear from the whole community which includes young people like you. This will help us to make decisions about these changes.

If you would like to tell us what you think about our ideas please click on the online survey link below.

If you are interested in finding out more about why we would like to make these changes please look at the  survey for individuals .

What happens next

We will look at what you say.

We will decide if the plan needs to change.

The plan will be taken to the County Councils Cabinet in December 2014.

If Cabinet agree, changes to bus services could happen in April 2015.
