Why your views matter

In 2010 a number of improvements were introduced in the High Street area, including a pedestrian zone in Courthouse Street and the upgrade of two pedestrian crossings on The Bourne.

Since the opening of the Jerwood Gallery and the introduction of new signals at the Rock-a-Nore Road junction, concerns have been raised about the amount of traffic rat-running through the High Street.

A study has been carried out to look at the impact that the opening of the Jerwood Gallery has had on traffic levels in and around the High Street and a set of proposals has been developed to improve conditions for pedestrians in the High Street.

What happens next

Your views will help us decide how the proposals will be taken forward.

We will report to the Lead Member for Transport and Environment in December, setting out the results of the public consultation and including our recommendations about whether the scheme should be taken forward for detailed design and consultation.  A copy of the report will be available on the County Council's website nearer the time.

Thank you.
