Lewes District Car Parks Review 2019

Closed 2 Aug 2019

Opened 12 Jul 2019

Overview

We are proposing changes to some of the car parks in Lewes and are doing this with a change to the relevant traffic regulation order.

The general effect of the Orders are as follows:-

  • Allow the parking of motor caravans between 7pm - 10am in Buckle HGV Park and Esplanade Car Park. The reason for this is to encourage motor caravans to park in the car parks overnight rather than on-street on the seafront.
  • Reduce the maximum height restriction to 1.9 metres in Bastion Steps, Bay Vue Road, Fairlight Avenue, West Quay, Buckle Seaford, Richmond Road, Roderick Avenue North, Steyning Avenue and Piddinghoe Avenue car parks. This is to help prevent fly tipping in the car parks by large vans.
  • Introduce Permit Holders Only 8am - 8pm and At All Times, with a public disabled space limited to 2 hours maximum stay 8am - 6pm to Friend’s Meeting House Car Park. This is for use by members of Friend’s Meeting House, parking enforcement vehicles and disabled visitors to the library.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to this consultation

What happens next

After the closing date of 2 August 2019 all responses to the consultation will be carefully considered and we will try to resolve any objections.

If we cannot resolve the objections we will present a report to the planning committee. The committee will then make a decision whether to install the proposals as advertised, or to amend or withdraw the proposals.

We expect this planning committee meeting to take place in October
