Your views on The County Councils proposal to dispose of surplus school playing fields at The Former Grove School

Overview

The playing fields at the former site of The Grove School, Darwell  Close,  Hastings are now surplus to requirements and we would like to dispose of them. In particular we would like to hear the views of the local community, to ensure that we have not overlooked any other opportunities for the use of the playing field.

Why your views matter

At the end of the Summer term 2013, The Grove School closed and merged to become part of St Leonards Academy. The school playing fields at the former site of The Grove School are no longer needed for school playing field purposes.

We are proposing that the former site could be used to provide a wholly residential development project, as this whould maximise the site value and meet our obligations under the Local Government Act of 1972. The proceeds from the sale of the school playing field will be used to fund specific capital projects which improve and enhance facilities at local schools.

In order to dispose of the playing fields we need the consent of the Secretary of State for Education, under Section 77 of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998. As part of their requirements, we need to consult, and we would like to hear your views.
