We asked

East Sussex County Council worked with a range of health, care and voluntary sector partners, to conduct a joint strategic needs assessment (JSNA) for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and other sexual and gender identity minorities (LGBTQ+). We wanted to understand LGBTQ+ local people’s experiences of health, accessing local services and about how COVID-19 has impacted them.

The findings from the survey that formed part of the needs assessment will help us improve services locally.

The JSNA made a wide range of recommendations. These included further engagement with LGBTQ+ communities, to increase the knowledge and uptake of a range of services and to collect further insight on how these communities experience these services. A number of recommendations are also outlined, aimed at increasing inclusion and awareness of LGBTQ+ people and their needs in a wide range of health and care services. The report also made five specific recommendations on Trans healthcare. Finally, recommendations were made in relation to increasing the monitoring and data collection of LGBTQ+ people in services.

Overview

Help shape local services for LGBTQ+ groups in East Sussex by taking part in our survey and enter a prize draw to win one of five £50 vouchers

East Sussex County Council, working with a range of health, care and voluntary sector partners, are conducting a needs assessment for our lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and other sexual and gender identity minorities (LGBTQ+). We want to understand your experiences of health, accessing local services and about how Covid-19 has impacted you.

This will help us improve services locally. Projects in other areas have resulted in real change, such as LGBTQ+ training for GPs and the development of new and innovative services for LGBTQ+ communities.

Who we want to hear from

We want to hear from you if you live in the county of East Sussex (excluding Brighton and Hove), are over 16, and:

  • Identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, pansexual, asexual or any other sexual minority; or
  • Identify as trans, non-binary, gender queer, gender fluid, gender non-confirming, agender or any other gender minority; or
  • Have a variation in sex characteristics (sometimes known as ‘intersex’).

We want to hear from a diverse range of community members. This could include communities such as those who are LGBTQ+ and with disabilities and/or neurodivergence, community members who are Black and/or People of Colour, Gypsy and Traveller communities, those aged over 50+, and those with a variation in sex characteristics.

To encourage people to take part everyone who completes the survey will have the option of entering the prize draw.
