Hastings proposed new permit zones - high level consultation 2026
Results updated 30 Jun 2026
Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the consultation.
After carefully reviewing all the responses received, we have decided not to proceed with the parking scheme, proposing new permit zones in Hastings borough. This is because there was not enough support from respondents to take the scheme forward.
We understand that parking remains a concern for some residents. People can still make requests for parking restrictions or changes to be considered in the future. You can make a request for parking controls or changes to the existing ones on our website.
Any new requests will be reviewed as part of our usual process. We review our parking areas every 14 months to make sure they meet the changing needs of our local communities. A guide to our parking reviews can be found on our website.
We will also consider whether a smaller area could be looked at in the future, where there may be clearer local support for changes.
All comments have been considered as part of the consultation process, and the feedback received will help inform any future reviews in the area.
Overview
We want to hear from people who use our roads, about parking in St Leonards-On-Sea, Hastings.
We review our parking schemes to make sure they meet the changing needs of local communities. In each review we consider requests for new controls and requests for changes to existing controls.
Before the next review begins, we are looking for your views on some potential changes.
The consultation period runs from 15 May to 5 June. All feedback need to be received by 5 June.
Why your views matter
The changes being considered follow requests for new or changes to existing permit parking areas.
Your feedback at this stage will help us decide if these changes should be included as proposals in the next parking review, due to start in September 2026.

Next steps
Once the high level consultation has closed the feedback is reviewed. Most often there are conflicting responses, and we need to find a balance to differing needs. Following consideration of the feedback proposals based on the changes being considered may be included in the next parking review due to start in September 2026.
If it is decided that the the changes should be included in the next parking review detailed proposals will be drawn up, the proposals will then go through two further rounds of public consultation, informal and formal.
